Police officers were called to the Spring Boroughs youth club in Tower Street, Northampton, at about 8.10pm on Monday.

A spokesman for the force said 10 people attending the club had been sprayed with an “alkaline based irritant.”

The four alleged offenders had fled the scene in a black car.

Following the incident, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm.

Three people who had been sprayed had to be “dry-decontaminated” and all those affected had to go to Northampton General Hospital.

The Kingdom Life Church, which runs the youth club, has issued a statement today following the incident.

A spokesperson said: “The leaders will be reviewing the situation as a matter of urgency and once we are clear about the facts we will decide what further actions are required if any.

“The leaders would also like to thank the emergency services for their prompt reaction and professionalism in dealing with the situation.”

It also added their “thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.”
