Nicola DeSousa murder inquiry: Inquest opened
An inquest has been opened and adjourned following the alleged murder of Northampton woman Nicola DeSousa.
Miss DeSousa, aged 31, was found dead at her home in Oakley Street, in The Mounts, shortly after 7pm on Friday, February 12.
Her partner, 42-year-old Steven Jewell, has been charged with her murder after he made the initial 999 call alerting police to the tragedy.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire Coroner's Office confirmed yesterday an inquest had been opened. He said: "The Deputy Coroner for Northamptonshire, Rodney Haig, has opened and adjourned the inquest into the death of Nicola de Sousa.
"The exact cause of death has yet to be established."
Details to emerge during Jewell's hearing at Northampton Crown Court on Tuesday revealed Miss DeSousa may have died as a result of strangulation.
Further pathology reports have been requested by the Crown Prosecution Service to establish exactly how she died.
It is thought she may have been dead at the house she shared with Jewell for several days before her body was discovered.
Her father Neville told the Chronicle & Echo that the keen artist and trained hairdresser "did not deserve" to die so young.
He added: "She was beautiful, happy and vibrant. And it doesn't matter what trouble she might have been in, she did not deserve this."
In a statement, her family said: "She had a special presence about her and brought a lot of joy and laughter to our lives. Nicola was charming."
