New owners have taken over a bar in Northampton that was closed down in March after its owners were jailed for dealing cocaine.

Chelsey Hillery is planning to open Retro Bar in the premises formerly known as Ice Lounge in Bridge Street, Northampton.

Mrs Hillery has no connections at all with the former owners, who bought the bar with money made from their criminal activity.

She said: “We are going for something completely different and will play 70s, 80s and 90s music.

“We hope to attract an older crowd and we are currently brightening up the decor. We know the bar had a lot of trouble before and attracted the wrong crowd but we are hoping to attract a completely different set of people who just want to have a laugh.”

The new bar is planning to open on Friday June 20 with a VIP night for friends and family and will be open to the public on June 21

The premises will also be used as the base for New Age Ltd, a company that provides training and recruitment along with events and promotions.
