Firefighters in Northamptonshire are to strike on November 1 and 4 November in a row with the government over pensions, the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has said.
A planned five-hour strike was called off earlier this month after progress was made during talks but the FBU has announced today that members will walk out on November 1 from 6.30pm to 11pm and on November 4 from 6am to 8am.
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Chief Fire Officer Martyn Emberson said: “We are disappointed that further industrial action is planned, but we are fully prepared and our contingency plans have been tested thoroughly to ensure that we can maintain an emergency response service to the people and businesses of our county.”
Matt Wrack, secretary of the FBU, said: “The Westminster government has created this mess, but it is refusing to clear it up.
“It now recognises the problem but it won’t provide the legal and financial guarantees firefighters need to ensure they have a job and an unreduced pension in the future.”
