New Northamptonshire cabinet member for vulnerable children has said she will prioritise moving Northamptonshire’s children’s service out of its “inadequate” Ofsted rating for keeping kids safe.
Councillor Heather Smith, who was formally awarded the position - revealed first by the Chron - at a county council meeting held today to announce the new cabinet, said: “My aim is to improve our children’s services within 12 months so that they can continue to aim towards achieving a “good” rating.”
“This is a subject I am very passionate about and it will be a new challenge for me, even though I am already familiar with the work involved.”
Her appointment follows the recent resignation of previous portfolio holder, Councillor Catherine Boardman.
During the meeting, the following cabinet members were appointed or reappointed:
Leader of the council - Jim Harker
Deputy Leader of the council (with statutory responsibility for children services and education) – Heather Smith
Education - Matt Golby
Finance, Performance and LGSS - Bill Parker
Adult Care Services - Suresh Patel
Public Health and Wellbeing - Robin Brown
Transport, Highways and Environment - Michael Clarke
Economic Growth and Public Protection - Andre Gonzalez De Savage
