New college building officially opens in Daventry

A new University Technical College (UTC) building in Daventry has officially opened to students.

The new college, located in Ashby Road, was due to open in September but was not ready in time so the first intake of students studied at the University of Northampton for the first term.

The college, which is the second of its kind in the county following the opening of the Silverstone UTC last year, caters for 14 to 19-year-olds and offers mix of academic studies, technical learning, employer-led design projects and specialises in engineering, modern methods of construction or environmental sustainability.

Moulton College is the lead sponsor of the UTC which is also being supported by the University of Northampton, Daventry District Council and Northamptonshire County Council.

David Edmondson, Principal of Daventry UTC, said: “It was fantastic to be able to welcome the students to their fantastic new College this morning.

“The building is outstanding and is testament to the hard work and dedication from all involved in making this a reality.

“The new building combined with the superb array of specialist equipment, exciting and integrated curriculum and wonderful staff, will provide a tremendous learning environment for current and future students.

Stephen Davies, Principal of Moulton College, said: “I am delighted to see the vision finally being realised. This state of the art education facility will provide high quality teaching and learning and give the best possible opportunities for young people to develop the blend of necessary work related technical skills, supported by English, maths and ICT to prepare them for the workplace.”

An open day for prospective students and their families will be held on Saturday, January 25.
