Name-row restaurant invites easyGroup boss Stelios to relaunch
The Indian restaurant at the centre of a copyright battle with easyGroup has invited the firm's founder, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, to its relaunch after agreeing to change its name.
The owners of easyCurry in Sol Central drew the attention of the country's media after initially standing up to the company, which owns easyJet and easyMoney.
The organisation reportedly objected to the word "easy", the orange colouring and typeface in the restaurant's signs and adverts.
Naz Uddin, a spokesman for easyCurry, said he would invite Stelios to the relaunch once a new name had been chosen.
"Realistically speaking, we could potentially end up keeping the word 'easy' and that's the biggest issue, but what they're saying is by the time we get to the end of that route, we will end up spending so much money," Mr Uddin said.
"What we're going to do now is let the people decide what we call ourselves. It's going to take a week or 10 days before the sign guy can come in and do all that, but it will be as soon as we can.
"Obviously, I can't change it overnight and I'm trying to be as helpful as I can with them."
Mr Uddin said he felt he had no choice but to back down and agree to change the name, after originally offering to alter the colours and the typeface.
The easyGroup has declined to comment on the case, but reiterated its policy on "brand thieves" to ensure the "public aren't misled by people or businesses passing themselves off as being part of easyGroup."
