A man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail pending further enquiries after a 48-year-old man died in a house fire in Wellingborough.

Fire crews were called to the blaze at a property in Midland Road in the town at about 9pm yesterday (Tuesday).

A man, who has not yet been named by police, died as a result of the fire and a murder investigation has been launched.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Kinchin, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the Midland Road area yesterday evening or in the previous 24 hours, and who may have seen anyone entering or leaving the disused hotel where the fire happened, to contact police.”

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, but has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101 or they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
