Labour MP Hazel Blears has praised the University of Northampton for its focus on social enterprise.
Mrs Blears visited the university on Thursday and gave a talk to students and staff about corporate social responsibility and social enterprise.
The MP visited Park Campus during the university’s first ‘Changemaker Week’ which promotes its commitment to social innovation and entrepreneurship.
The university has pledged to offer every student who studies in Northampton the chance to be part of a social enterprise.
Mrs Blears said: “I think the University of Northampton’s focus on social enterprise is absolutely amazing and I think there are the leading university for it.
“If you think of the intellectual capital you have in a university you have a lot of bright young people who are students and mature students as well the help they can give to social enterprise is enormous.
“For example, if you’ve got a law student, accountancy student or business student sometimes social enterprise sometimes have great ideas but they need that professional help as well.”
