MP hears residents' viewpoints in survey

A Northampton MP has conducted a postal survey to discover her constituents' views of plans for a development on the edge of the town.

Sally Keeble, who is the Labour MP for Northampton North, asked about 220 residents of Southfields and Billing Lane what they thought about plans for development of the area, Moulton and Overstone, which would seem 5,000 homes, industry, new roads and a Moulton bypass.

About half of residents surveyed responded with what was described as "wholesale opposition" to the plans.

Mrs Keeble said: "This is a huge urban extension in an area that has few facilities. People have voiced their strong objections in this survey and at a public meeting.

"There will be a further meeting for the community to draw up a more detailed response at the end of August and in addition, I have asked the West Northamptonshire Joint Plann- ing Unit to hold its own public consultation meeting on Southfields estate as part of its formal consultation programme."

There were 67 responses to the survey, with only three people not against the proposals.
