The Conservative MP for South Northamptonshire has requested an urgent review of the speed limit on a road near Northampton after a fatal collision.
Andrea Leadsom MP has registered her support for a campaign by residents of Stoke Bruerne and Roade calling for safety measures to be introduced on the A508 after six crashes in one week last month, including one that led to the death of a 21-year-old woman.
One of the proposals is to reduce the speed limit form 50mph to 40mph near the Stoke Bruerne junction where most of the crashes have happened.
Mrs Leadsom said: “Since coming to Parliament in 2010 as South Northamptonshire’s representative, I have had numerous occasions when it was necessary to write to both Northamptonshire County Council and the Highways Agency to highlight the issue on the A508.
“The recent set of accidents, including the tragic death of a young member of our community, remind us that despite changes being implemented, more needs to be done. I have once again written to Northamptonshire County Council, the Highways Agency and also Northamptonshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, to request an urgent review of the safety of this stretch or road and for further traffic calming measures to be put in place within a week.”
