South Northamptonshire MP Andrea Leadsom is calling for further traffic calming measures to be introduced on the A508 near Stoke Bruerne.
Mrs Leadsom recently met with several Stoke Bruerne residents living on or near the A508 to discuss their ongoing concerns regarding the safety of the stretch of road that passes near their village and Ashton.
Mrs Leadsom said: “The residents here have confirmed the alarming number and severity of accidents along this stretch of road, including the tragic case of the young woman who recently lost her life here.
“I was able to witness first-hand the dangerous speed at which traffic flows and the difficulties this causes in residents pulling out on to the road, as well as the problems caused by road signs and markings.”
Mrs Leadsom has written to Northamptonshire County Council and Superintendent Andy Cox, County Commander for South Northamptonshire, to raise with them the enforcement of the 50mph speed limit and what further traffic calming measures could be taken.
Mrs Leadsom said: “I hope that we will be able to review the problems on the A508 as soon as possible to ensure that both those living in the area and road users alike can be safe.”
