Mother's plea to youngsters after son dies 'roof hopping'

The mother of a teenager who died "roof hopping" on an industrial building has warned youngsters to have fun - but think about the impact of their actions.

Amanda Boikovs, 39, from Daventry, Northamptonshire, was speaking after an inquest into the death of her 16-year-old son Joshua Granfield.

He died in September after he fell through a skylight on the roof of a factory on an industrial estate in Daventry.

After suffering serious head injuries in the fall, he died three days later in hospital.

Josh and four friends had been "roof hopping" - a hobby they had also done previously on buildings in Daventry town centre, the inquest at Northampton General Hospital heard.

His family and friends wept during the inquest, which today returned a verdict of accidental death.

Speaking afterwards, Mrs Boikovs warned fellow teenagers to try and get the right balance of fun in their lives.

She said: "Don't not have fun - you could sit at home and be bored.

"Go out and have fun but be more aware of the impact your fun can have. It can be dangerous."
