Morris Men took part in a 40 year tradition today by dancing to entertain Northampton’s Christmas shoppers.
A group of about 20 Morris Men performed special Christmas dances at the top end of Abington Street as last-minute shoppers hurried to stock up for Christmas.
Barry Care from the Moulton Morris Men said: “We always come out the Saturday before Christmas, we’ve been doing it for about 40 years now.
“It’s a good warm-up for our big event in Moulton on Boxing Day, which is really our biggest event of the year.”
This year’s Christmas dance took place outside Sheinman’s Opticians in Abington Street.
Business owener, John Sheinman, said he hoped the performance would help put the area, which is known as East Gate, on the map as an outdoor entertainment space.
He said: “We want to establish East Gate as an area where events can take place, as they used to here in years gone by.
“And it’s a lovely thing to do, just before Christmas when all the people are out doing their shopping.”
The Moulton Morris Men will perform at Stocks Hill in Moulton from 11am on Boxing Day and then again on January 25 at Moulton School, where the May Queen will be chosen.
