Metal thieves take half a tonne of fencing

Almost half a tonne of steel fencing has been stolen from a landscaping yard in Northamptonshire.

Scrap dealers have been urged to be on the lookout for the palisade-style fencing, which went missing from RM Landscaping in Moulton Road, near Pitsford.

A spokesman for the firm said thieves broke through padlocks on two gates then climbed under a security fence in order to take the hoard of steel, along with several timber bird baths.

He said: "Apparently the price of scrap has gone up again, so metal is worth quite a bit to these people. We think it was probably about 500 worth which was taken.

"I just want to ask scrap dealers to be on the lookout for any steel palisade fencing, and if anyone saw anything suspicious near the yard we would like them to get in touch with police.

"They've made a very concerted effort to get into the place because we have two gates, and they snapped off the padlocks for both of them."

The theft took place at some point between the evening of Sunday, January 17 and Wednesday, January 20, and a bird table, concrete bird bath and scrap metal were among the items taken. Northamptonshire Police has appealed for witnesses following the break-in.
