Mass haul for dog biscuit fishermen

A young boy and his father were left 'shattered' after catching more than 100 carp from a Northamptonshire reservoir in only 12 hours.

Steve Lee and his 11-year-old son, Louis, visited Drayton Reservoir near Daventry so Mr Lee could help his son brush up on his carp-fishing techniques.

But minutes after the father and son team set up their rods by the banks of the reservoir, they began reeling in their massive catch, which fishing experts have described as one of the largest carp hauls in history.

Mr Lee credited the success on a combination of good weather and the imitation dog biscuits the two used as bait.

He said: "They were just coming right up and taking the doggy biscuits.

"We'd got there at 6am and as soon as we put the first rod out, we had one, then the other rod went almost straight away.

"We were getting them every couple of minutes. It was amazing."

Among the 800lb haul of fish was one carp weighing in at 18lb and Mr Lee said many of the other fishermen sitting around the reservoir simply watched the two reeling in their catch in amazement.

He added: "It was quite an experience.

"To be honest, I was shattered by the end of it."

Despite their success, the two Bedfordshire fishermen threw all their catch back into the water, fighting off any temptation to take any home for tea.

Mr Lee said: "By the end of it, Louis was getting a bit bored really.

"When you're catching fish after fish after fish it becomes a little bit too easy.

"But the guys sitting next to us thought it was incredible."
