Man dies in road crash in Northamptonshire
A man has died following a crash on the B645 in Northamptonshire.
The incident took place at about 4.40pm on Tuesday, October 28 on the Chelveston Road, Higham Ferrers.
A Ford Escort van was travelling from the direction of Higham Ferrers and the 7.5 tonne Iveco vehicle was going in the opposite direction when the two vehicles collided head-on.
The driver of the Iveco was taken to Kettering General Hospital and the driver of the Ford Ecort van received fatal injuries.
The impact left the van severely damaged and lying across the middle of the road, while the lorry was also badly damaged and in a ditch at the side of the road.
Firefighters from Rushden, Irthlingborough and Mereway in Northampton used cutting equipment to free the lorry driver from his cab.
Police have not yet identified the man killed in the crash.
A fire service spokesman said: "We were called to the Chelveston Road, one mile from Higham Ferrers, to a reported road traffic collision.
"This was a collision involving one heavy goods vehicle and one van. A man was released by the fire service and taken to hospital by the ambulance."
The road was closed, causing delays to rush-hour traffic, to allow the emergency services to complete their work.
