Lynn Wilson: Successful businessman and lover of horse racing

Lynn Wilson, as chair of the Wilson Foundation, paid for the sculpture in Abington Street commemorating the life of scientist Francis Crick, who discovered the double helix structure of DNA.

His house building firm Wilson Connolly dates back to 1905 when founder and former shoemaker Thomas Wilson converted an old windmill into a comfortable home for his wife.

His grandsons Con and Lynn Wilson both went on to play a major role within the business until it was sold to housebuilding giant Taylor Woodrow in 2003.

Lynn Wilson rose to third place in the Midlands rankings and eighth nationally in the Sunday Times rich list in 2003. He recieved 44,363,960 for his stake in the company.

Wilson also owned a string of racehorses.

His Enjoy The Moment finished second to in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2006.

Henry Mann and Barna Boy won at the Cheltenham Festival, while Blue Royal finished third in the 2000 Champion Hurdle.
