Drivers found themselves stuck in a gridlock in Northampton town centre during rush hour last night.
Many of the roads around the town centre came to a halt just before 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday).
People took to social media to complain about the queues, which was a result of a collision involving a lorry and traffic light failure.
PC Dave Lee from the Roads Policing Unit, Northants Police said via Twitter: “Lorry RTC on Horsemarket is causing traffic issues in the town folks.
“Please avoid Greyfriars and Horsemarket area down towards St Peters Way.”
Officers were sent to the top of the Drapery to help with the traffic, which was being monitored by traffic officers via CCTV.
There was also a traffic light failure at the bottom of Gold Street and Horsemarket.
At around 6.30pm PC Lee said: “Traffic in Northampton town is now flowing freely. Thanks to those who avoided the area. And thanks to those who were stuck for the patience.”
