Double Olympic silver medallist Joe Glanfield is set to mentor budding boaters tomorrow as part of a training event at Northampton Sailing Club.
People of all ages and abilities are invited to the Pitsford Reservoir-based club to take part in a range of water-based activities, including dinghy sailing, windsurfing and stand up paddle boarding.
The free day is one of a series of Volvo Sailing Academies and Joe will be joined by two of the British Sailing Team’s top female sailors, Frances Peters and Sophie Weguelin, to give lessons.
Team Volvo sailor Sophie, said: “The Volvo Sailing Academies are such a great way to get more people involved in sailing.
“I helped out at the first academy a few weeks ago and from my point of view, it is always very rewarding to see so many people with smiles on their faces enjoying our sport.
“I can’t wait to introduce more people to sailing this weekend and pass on tips and tricks for having fun out on the water.”
For those who do not want to get their feet wet, there will be number of family friendly shore-based activities, including a boat building competition made out of recycled materials, a colouring competition, a lunchtime barbecue and the opportunity to find out more information on how to get involved in sailing by becoming a member of the club.
To sign up to take part, send your name, contact number, preferred email address and activity of choice to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01983 203527.
Spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
