Northampton town centre has been dealt another blow with news that Laura Ashley is to close its branch in Market Walk.

The firm has announced the closure as part of its ‘store realignment programme’,

Despite the town centre closure, a spokesman for Laura Ashley confirmed the company’s out-of-town store on the St James Retail Park in Towcester Road, would remain open.

She said: “As part of the Laura Ashley store realignment programme, the company will be closing its Northampton Market Walk site on Saturday.

“We look forward to welcoming new and existing customers to our nearby store just a few minutes away at the St James Retail Park, which showcases our full range of fashion, decorating, furniture and accessories collections.”

The Peacock Place shopping centre was renamed Market Walk back in October 2010.

At the time of the relaunch, the centre’s owners said it was hoped it would become the up-market fashion centre of Northampton.
