Last chance to save red phone boxes
Tomorrow is the deadline for people to object to the removal of nearly 40 traditional red phone boxes in a district.
Daventry District Council published the first notification of its response to BT's proposals to scrap around 60 boxes in total from around the Daventry district at the end of July, after having scores of letters from local people.
It has to submit its final report to BT by September 6 in a bid to save the threatened call boxes, many of which are at more remote sites in the district.
The council's first notification objects to the removal of 38 traditional red phone boxes and a further 17, because the call levels suggest there is a demand in the area they are in and they provide a valuable local resource where mobile phone reception is poor.
However, it does agree with the removal of five modern-style boxes in Overstone, Haselbech, Preston Capes, East Farndon and Long Buckby Wharf, due to the lack of calls made from these in the past 12 months.
People can view the document and access a feedback form at www.daventrydc.gov.uk. They can also reply by post to Karen Britton, Senior Planning Officer, Daventry District Council, Lodge Road, Daventry NN11 4FP, or by emailing kbritton@daventrydc.gov.uk
