A MAN from Northampton who attacked and injured an experienced frontline police officer, ending his career in the process, has lost his appeal against sentence.
A judge sitting at Northampton Crown Court ruled there were no grounds for Timothy Munday to appeal against the 30-month sentence he received last August for the attack on former police constable Ben Fathers.
Munday, aged 24, of Boothville, was jailed by Judge Richard Bray for the attack outside The White Swan pub in Holcot in January 2011, triggering a string of magistrates and crown court hearings which eventually ended with him being sentenced last summer.
Mr Fathers. 37 had to be medically retired out of the force last year as a result of the injuries he suffered at the hands of Munday, who he had been trying to calm down.
The defendant, who was under the influence of drugs at the time, was convicted of affray, grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving.
