Comedian John Bishop put £1,000 behind the bar for fans at Northampton’s Royal and Derngate after he arrived late to his own show.
The comedian was delayed on the motorway before he was due to appear at his “Work in Progress” gig, tweeting prior to his arrival that he would be “about 30 minutes” late.
However, when he finally arrived at the theatre after 45 minutes, he offered to buy every audience and staff member a drink in order to apologise.
Chief Executive of Northampton’s Royal and Derngate, Martin Sutherland said: “He’s a regular here and just a very nice guy. I’m delighted that he was so generous.
“He offered to buy everyone a drink after the gig, and that’s what he did.”
After the evening ended, the comedian tweeted: “Thank you to all who came to the Northampton gig. I apologise for my tardiness but hope you all enjoy the drink on me - cheers :-)”
The grand gesture comes only three months after Jason Manford picked up a bar tab of over £3500 in March, after he similarly arrived at his own show late.
