Jail for men in McDonalds fight

Aaron Carnegie-Whyte, aged 22, and 19-year-old Kane Carnegie were captured on town centre CCTV cameras as the fight spilled out of the McDonald's restaurant in The Drapery, Northampton at about 3am on November 3.

They were due to be tried at Northampton Crown Court yesterday accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm but changed their pleas to admit a lesser charge of grievous bodily harm on Lawrence Urani. Kane Carnegie also admitted an assault charge.

Passing sentence, Judge Richard Bray said: "This was a very nasty offence. I have seen the DVD and the attack took place at 3am in the very centre of Northampton, in an area crowded with young people. This is typical of the sort of frightening violence that is taking place in our streets."

Aaron Carnegie-Whyte, of Dunster Street, The Mounts, who was jailed for 30 months, was told by the judge: "This matter is seriously aggravated by your record. You had three convictions for violence last year, all disorder in the street, were on bail and subject to a conditional discharge."

Kane Carnegie, of Mill Street, Wellingborough, received 30 months' detention. The judge said: "It's clear you have a conviction for stabbing a fellow student at Nene College and did not learn from that sentence.
