Jagger and Woody to quit radio show
Popular radio presenters Jagger and Woody have announced they will be leaving Northampton after nine years working in the town, with listeners now left searching for a new soundtrack to their breakfast time.
The duo, real names Simon Jagger and Chris Wood, are leaving Heart 96.6 to work at Real Radio Wales, based in Cardiff, where they will host the breakfast show from 6am until 10am.
In a joint statement the pair thanked all their listeners and said they had "loved every minute" of working in Northampton.
The statement read: "We've spent a very special nine years of our lives here in Northampton and we are genuinely sorry to leave. We've had a great time.
"Since starting the show, we've both met our partners and our audience has shared our lives with us.
"We've loved every minute, especially becoming Heart over the last year. We'd like to say a massive thank-you to all our listeners and the whole team at Heart. We wish the station every success as it goes from strength-to-strength in the future."
Speaking to the Chron, Simon Jagger, aged 42, said the offer from Real Radio Wales, which is run by the GMG Group, had been too good to refuse.
He said: "Since we have been in Northampton we have had many offers to move but they have never been quite right. Real Radio Wales is a massive radio station with 2.7 million listeners and we felt it was an opportunity not to missed at our age.
"We are very sad to leave Northampton behind. They say the golden rule is never marry a listener but I met my wife Emma while working here.
"Our show was an experiment and two northern guys on a Northampton radio station should never have worked on paper, but we have been very successful over the years.
"Now it is two northern guys from Northampton going to a Welsh radio station so we will have to see how that is going to work.
"As far as we are concerned it is the end of an era. Our last show is going to be difficult.
"I remember when Dr Fox left Capital Radio and laughing because he got emotional but I can understand that now and I hope it doesn't happen to us."
Jagger and Woody's final show will be broadcast on March 26 and a spokesman for Heart 96.6 said the new presenters of the breakfast show would be announced "very soon"
The spokesman said: "We can confirm that Jagger and Woody will be leaving Heart 96.6 next month. We wish both them and their families every good wish in their new venture.
"For the last nine years, they've been waking up Northamptonshire and we'd like to thank them for all their enthusiasm, hard work and fantastic sense of humour during that time."
