It’s Royal wedding fun for just 99p!

A DISCOUNT retailer has hopped on to the Royal Wedding bandwagon and will offer memorabilia for less than a pound.

The Northamptonshire-based 99p Stores chain will role out its Prince William and Kate Middleton stock across the country tomorrow.

The value retailer, which has a store in Gold Street, Northampton, will offer customers Royal Wedding confectionary, commemorative cushions, plates, mugs and flags in time for the big day on April 29.

Commercial director Hussein Lalani said: “We have invested quite a lot to get a good range of products for Royal memorabilia and it includes some of the old favourites like bunting. There will be flags, commemorative cushions, plates and mugs, and clotted cream fudge.

“We have put a lot of thought into it and have got things that we think people will want.”

The value retailer will stock customised Prince William and Kate clotted cream toffee and fudge boxes, mugs, cushions and shopping bags, all at 99p each.

The store also has a dozen bunting flags for 99p which all have a photograph of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Mr Lalani said the chain had stocked up on party essentials to cater for those using the national bank holiday to celebrate the wedding.

Communities in Northampton are busy making plans for traditional street parties on the day and pubs and groups will throw their own celebrations.

Mr Lalani said: “We have also been stocking up on party wear because everyone is off on the day of the Royal Wedding and we think there will be a lot of street parties. There’s plenty of party wear for everyone to celebrate in the traditional way.”

He added: “We are looking forward to the Royal Wedding. I think in the recession where everyone is feeling a bit of doom and gloom, having an extra day off for the Royal Wedding will lighten customers’ moods.

“We are hoping people will remember the day for years to come and keep the memorabilia. There’s lots of bargains for customers.

The 99p store brand is celebrating its Royal range by looking for a couple in Northamptonshire who are called William and Kate or William and Catherine. The winning couple will receive 99 items, including 99p Stores full Royal Wedding memorabilia range. Entries can be emailed to 99p@6starpr.co.uk before April 4.

It's not "role out", it's "roll out", and it's "confectionery" NOT "confectionary"! Hopefully this will soon be changed to make this comment outdated. Steve Riches.
