Investigation into ghostly goings-on at ‘paranormal’ Northampton pub

editorial image

A PUB with history of unexplained happenings was the subject of a 36-hour study by a team of paranormal investigators this weekend.

The historical Old Black Lion in Northampton town centre has long been the subject of local ghostly rumour and tales, but owner Steve decided to finally get to the bottom of the strange noises, and called in G.S.I Paranormal UK.

The group headed Don Philips spent from Friday night through to Sunday morning trying to gather evidence of haunting activity using five cameras rolling the entire time, as well as sound recording equipment to pick up high-frequency sounds, or voices.

Steve Dennis, the director of the pub, said: “We’ve had various people visit the pub for just an evening and they’ve uncovered quite a lot of stuff but Don is the first guy to do a 36-hour vigil for more detail to put meat on bones to find out what is going on.

“So many thing happen all the time, it’s really eerie but what I want to do now is build up a picture of who these people are and link them to periods of time and people in history.

“I’m looking for proof so we can collaborate information we already have compile a document on it.”

Mr Philips, who has always been able to sense spirits, said he successfully gathered recordings of around 25 voices, as well as an orb.

Don, who does not charge for the service, said: “I visit every room and I can sense when somebody is there, and I ask them to talk to me. We’ve got really strong recordings.

“Our aim to provide clear evidence to the landlord about what is here and what it going on, but also to educate everyone about the activity.

Mr Philips explained that some of the voices are loud enough to hear clearly, while others need to be played back on specialised computer equipment to be understood.

What a great picture ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Let all the sneering doubters hang their heads in shame. What better proof can there be than an actual picture of ghosts ? Bit blurry - but still the best picture we have of paranormal spritis . What can't speak can't lie I am so glad the Chron publishes really hard hitting, investigative pieces like this - who cares about the goings-on in the local polic or politics ? We need more of this sort of shallow nonesense - clearly NOT a cheap advertising stunt. "Mr Philips, who has always been able to sense spirits," Great quote - who told you that ? - Oh yeah ..............Mr Philips.!! Please Emma & editor - don't just print what people tell you - that's gossip - not news !

WE!!!!!Bobby boy what's all this WE you keep referring to?and you also say i'm still missing the point to be honest i can't ever remember you making any valid points, but i suppose if you ever started making valid points your comments wouldn't be funny anymore.and you must have a sense of humour to live in England

blizzy you still ducked the points I made , try to read comments carefully before you decide to add what you obviously think is something relevant , about the negativity so you believe yours are positive? , I think not , especially the one you made about nationality change and benefits scam , oh how we all chuckled when you reveal it was a joke , I think not , a slip on the key board more like . PS a large number of people are still pouring into UK . albeit many via the back door must be the cesspit attracting them .

Let me set the record straight once and for all Bobby the reason why i moved here in the first place was business. do you remember when people had moral values when children had respect for the elderly you felt safe walking the streets etc, etc. back in England 50 years ago.well that still applies here plus many more things England lost.As for me stating i would return to claim benifits it was a JOKE in fact i could if i wanted claim a pension but i'm not and have no intention of doing so. Lastly when i comment on any article it's mainly the commentors i'm aiming at usually the one's with the NEGATIVE remarks such as yourself who still live in Northampton but seldom have anything POSITIVE to say about the place. If England is such a wonderful country WHY are so many people clambering to leave ? I REST MY CASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

blizzy if you say Northampton is a cesspit why are you so very interested in it ? , I have NEVER criticised you for moving abroad , just your interference in things you want nothing to do with , hence your move to Kuala Lumpur , any nationality change yet ? .

blizzy you obviously still have not read my comments correctly , just skirted round to say what you want to say ,how we here rue the day that the people that leave UK and then say they will change nationality to return and bleed the lovely benefits system are allowed to comment on birthplace they have rejected , we can only be glad you have gone to Kuala Lumpur .

Bobscabby to quote the Collins English Dictionary paranormal means 'Beyond normal scientific explanation' Paranormal research groups look for logical explanations not spooky ghosts and 95% are explanable it's the 5% that is unexplainable that they are interested in. I just knew you would pick up on the NORTHAMPTONIAN bit! I'm sorry to say being born and bred in the town makes me a Northamptonian but nowadays is not a word to be proud of and to be only whispered behind closed doors. PS: do you know about NORTHAMPTON PAST website it has nearly 2000 photos of old Northampton a great site for chatting about the old town when it was GREAT!!!!

blizzy unexplained incidents have nothing to do with paranormal but possibly memory glitches would fit the bill , I made no mention that these deluded (you must admit they are) people were paid or asked for payment , did you read my comment properly! , Steve Dennis asked them in , obviously not looking to get Chron in on it , but how did the Chron hear the Pub was going to be paranormaly investigated ?. blizzy Allegedly is a lovely word for escapists , hope you do not still include yourself as a Northamptonian .

Bobscrabby i myself have experienced on two different occasions something that i cant explain i think everyone sometime in their lives will experience something that cant be explained logically. I can imagine your feeling's towards the paranormal because of the incident with your friend But it's rather unfair to say these people who investigate paranormal activities are 'LOONIES' and if you had read the story properly NO MONEY WAS INVOLVED and i think you will find Paranormal research groups Always do investigations FREE of charge and in some cases will pay a fee for the privilege of an investigation. Finally i doubt very much if the Black Lion is seeking publicity as it's a well known fact to most Northamptonians that the pub is allegedly haunted.

They are thinking 'paranormal', but perhaps they should be thinking 'extraterrestrial' - take a look at the 'thing' behind the chap standing up in the picture.
