How to grow your own fruit and veg

Green-fingered Northampton residents who would like to learn how to grow their own fruit and vegetables can visit the Market Square next week as part of Green Britain Day.

Staff from Wyevale Garden Centre, in Newport Pagnell Road, will show people how to sow seeds and plant up containers to grow their own food, on Friday, July 10, from 11am until 5pm.

Manager Lee Whitestone said: "Grow Your Own is already proving to be big this year. The team at the garden centre will be on hand during Green Britain Day to offer lots of free advice on what to plant, where and when, whether you're a beginner gardener or a more experienced one. "We can advise on everything from composts to watering techniques."

Green Britain Day aims to help reduce the nation's carbon footprint, from persuading people to turn off their televisions and watch programmes with friends and family to car sharing.
