High winds are hitting Northampton this morning as stormy weather returns to batter Britain over the festive period.

Gusts of up to 50mph hit the town this morning.

The blustery conditions are set to continue until the afternoon, and they have already brought down a tree in Masefield Way, Kingsthorpe, as pictured by James Farley.

The Pitsford Weather Station is predicting a dry afternoon with a fresh south-westerly wind easing slightly, and says Saturday will be largely fine, with wind continuing to ease to a gentle westerly.
