Help raise £100,000 for new heart nurse
The Chronicle & Echo and a leading charity are urging people to open their hearts and their wallets to help pay for a nurse who will care for thousands of Northamptonshire cardiac patients in their homes.
The British Heart Foundation, the nation's heart charity, has identified the urgent need in the south of Northamptonshire for a heart failure nurse who can visit patients and give them life-saving advice and also give comfort to those who are in their final days.
That nurse, Claire Eyles, is now in her post, but her vital services will cost the charity about 100,000 which will include things like extra training.
The British Heart Foundation now needs the help of Chronicle & Echo readers for its Northamptonshire Heart Nurse Appeal which aims to raise the money and help fund the level of care heart failure patients deserve.
Michael Baim, a British Heart Foundation fund-raising manger, said: "These heart failure nurses go out to people who can't or do not wish to go to see a doctor.
"In south Northamptonshire we had, until recently, just one heart failure nurse who is based at Northampton General Hospital.
"We now have another, Claire Eyles, who can go out and visit patients and the goal is to contribute to her cost.
"We have every confidence that Northamptonshire will be up to the task."
The NGH heart clinic currently has about 100 patients on its books but there are many more in the community who can benefit from the British Heart Foundation's expert care.
Claire's work instantly doubles the number of patients and families the charity helps in Northamptonshire and ensures it can help thousands more people in the future.
There are several ways that anyone in the county or even beyond can help fund Claire's work.
A popular way is to organise an event at work school or university or by simply making a donation, no matter whether big or small, both of which can easily be boosted by Gift Aid.
Kind-hearted people can also volunteer to do work for the British Heart Foundation to help support the appeal.
