Gorillas, crayons and a potato take part in run for Northamptonshire air ambulance

The annual Recue Run at Billing Aquadrome

The annual Recue Run at Billing Aquadrome

COMPETITORS dressed as gorillas, giant crayons and Mr Potato Head all took part in this year’s Rescue run at Billing Aquadrome in Northampton.

The annual event raises thousands of pounds for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

Tom Parnell, who works at the Virgin Active Health Club in Collingtree ran the five kilometre race on Sunday dressed as a gorilla.

He said: “We’re all here to raise money for the air ambulance, which is a great cause, and I’m handing out bananas to the runners as they go to keep them going.

“It is very hot running in the costume, in fact, on a scale of one to ten, I would say my heat level is about a 20.

“But I’m going to have a go at getting round the whole course.”

The event is organised by both Virgin Active and Billing Aquadrome. It is now in its 15th year.
