Giant snake on the loose in Northampton park

Police have been called to a reported sighting of a giant Burmese python in a Northampton park.

The snake was spotted in the undergrowth at Lingswood, Northampton earlier today.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "Police were called today at approximately 9.30am to a reported sighting of what is believed to be a large snake in the undergrowth at Lingswood, Northampton.

"It is believed the snake may be a green Burmese Python and several feet long.

"Although these snakes are not known to be dangerous, members of the public are advised not to approach it, keep a safe distance away from it and immediately call the police on 999 or the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999."
