Gardening pair dig in for placing
A gardening duo from Moulton College cultivated a runners-up prize at the Workskills UK Landscape Gardening competition.
Tom Moore and Tom Charge took part in the final at Windsor racecourse to build a seven-metre-square garden designed by Chelsea gold medallist designer Andy Sturgeon.
The college competed against teams from Chichester, Craven and Otley colleges to come runners-up.
The tutor for the Moulton team, horticultural lecturer Tim Walker, said: "The two students acquitted themselves very well especially as they were the youngest team there. They both have the opportunity to represent the college in next year's competition and should set their sights firmly on the WorldSkills finals in 2011 which are being held in London."
The judging panel for the competition included designer and contractor, Mark Gregory, Mitch Westwood from Westwood Solutions and BBC landscaping expert, Nigel Ellis.
Technical director of the competition, Peter Killen, said: "Andy Sturgeon's design was very challenging, especially for the younger members of the teams.
"It was a privilege to witness the grit, determination and level of competence of these young landscapers."
