Friends plan balloon launch tribute today for teenager Michael Sheehan

Friends of tragic teenager Michael Sheehan will gather today to release helium balloons in his memory as they begin to come to terms with his death.

The popular 14-year-old died during a family holiday to Blackpool, leaving his friends back home heartbroken.

Tributes poured in to social networking websites Facebook and Twitter, with a host of online memorial groups set up as soon as the news filtered down from the north-west.

One friend, Helina, wrote: "Everyone will miss you so much darling. You will be remembered for being such a lovely, bright, intelligent, kind, generous boy.

"I can't believe you are gone, but you are in a better place."

A number of friends of the Thomas Becket Catholic School pupil have pledged to let off helium balloons today in his memory.

A message on his memorial site read: "Whenever you get to the shops, buy a helium balloon, write a message on it and let it fly because where ever he is, the message will get across."

One Facebook tribute described Michael as "the world's most amazing boy" while Scout leader Lou Ousley wrote: "Michael was an amazing young man. All our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Bethany Roche added: "Why did it have to be him? He was such a legend and loved by many."
