Free advice on flooding
Residents of Northampton can find out how to be better prepared in the event of a flood at a special event being held in the town.
To raise awareness of flooding, the Environment Agency will be hosting a stand at the One-Stop Shop at the Guildhall from 10am today and again tomorrow.
Staff will be on hand to give advice about what people can do to protect themselves, their families, homes and possessions when flooding threatens.
Information will include how to prepare a flood plan and how to sign up to the Floodline Warnings Direct service. Staff will also be able to answer any questions people may have about flooding.
Asset system management team teader Guy Szomi said: "Predicted changes in the climate and heavier, more protracted rainfall present a huge challenge to both the Environment Agency and local communities.
"We will continue to work to ensure our flood defence assets remain effective in helping to protect people and property but no defence can ever stop all flooding happening.
"It is therefore vital that people understand what action they can take to help protect themselves should the worst happen.
"The one-stop shop gives people an opportunity to speak to our experts and find out more about the actions they can take.
"By attending, they will be taking an important first step in being prepared and able to protect their homes, families and possessions if flooding strikes."
Residents are urged to sign up for Floodline Warnings Direct which provides flood warnings to the public using a landline phone call, mobile, fax, pager, SMS texting and digital channels.
