Flood warnings remain in place along the River Nene in Northamptonshire following heavy rain over the New Year period.

The Environment Agency has issued a warning for “low-lying undefended areas of the River Nene between Daventry and Billing”.

The warning relates to “tributaries in and around Daventry, Weedon, Badby, Nether Heyford, Bugbrooke, Blisworth, Collingtree, and Moulton”, the Agency has said.

A spokesman said: “A band of persistent rain has crossed the country during New Year’s day.

“This has caused river levels in the upper sections of the River Nene to rise. We expect low lying land and roads across the flood plain to be affected first.

“Further showers are forecast for the next few days. As a result standing water can be expected to remain on roads and land.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and update this Flood Alert as appropriate.”
