Five arrested after firearms officers are called to Northampton home

Five people have been arrested after firearms officers were called to a Northampton home following reports of shots being fired.

The incident happened after 2pm on New Year’s Eve at a house in Towcester Road when police received reports of shots apparently being fired and what police described as “bladed articles” potentially being seen.

A police spokesman said firearms officers were initially called to the scene and later supported by area officers. The police helicopter also attended. The incident was contained to the Towcester Road area, he said, and there was no risk to the wider community.

It is understood that a number of “bladed articles” were recovered, however there was no immediate evidence that shots had actually been fired.

Five people have been arrested on suspicion of public order offences.
