McDonalds and Lush are just two of the businesses signed up to help tidy Northampton town centre this week, as part of a clean-up day organised by the Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID).

More businesses are now being urged to get involved and free up their staff to spend up to two hours sweeping, litter picking, cleaning and scrubbing. This clean-up will help the town sparkle in time for the East Midlands and Northampton in Bloom judges visit to town later this month.

Volunteers are being asked to meet at 9am behind All Saints Church, at the war memorial in Wood Hill. The clean-up will end at 11.30am, after which street care contractors Enterprise will continue with additional cleaning activities throughout the day.

Businesses unable to join the clean-up are being asked to make their own business fronts clean and tidy and to contribute to the overall look and feel of the town centre.

Perry Akhtar, Northampton town centre’s McDonald’s franchisee, said: “It’s great to see local residents and businesses getting together in an effort to improve the cleanliness of the town centre, to raise awareness about litter and for the benefit of everyone visiting Northampton.

“Hopefully, this clean-up will encourage everyone to do their bit so we can keep our town centre clean and tidy.”

The Northampton Town Centre BID is committed to making a visible difference to the town centre and, along with this clean-up day, has funded a new Green Machine, a road and footway sweeper exclusively for the town centre’s tight spaces and pedestrianized areas. The BID has funded this Green Machine in partnership with Northampton Borough Council and Enterprise to eliminate dirt, debris and litter from our streets.

If you can get involved in the BID clean-up day please contact Chris Barker at the Northampton Town Centre BID office by emailing info@northamptonbid.co.uk or calling 01604 837766.
