An electrical fault in the ceiling is believed to be the cause of a blaze which completely destroyed the Red Hot World Buffet restaurant in Northampton.
Following an investigation into the cause of the fire at the popular restaurant in Sixfields, which started at 11pm on Wednesday, firefighters have concluded that the most likely cause of the fire was accidental.
At the height of the fire, eight fire engines and 60 firefighters were tackling the blaze.
A spokesman for Northants Fire & Rescue said: “The mostly likely cause is due to an electrical defect in the ceiling above the men’s toilets.”
Roads around the restaurant were closed until noon on Thursday as the mains gas needed to be turned off before firefighters could completely extinguish the blaze.
Many eye-witnesses of the fire reported that they saw the fire take hold in the roof of the building when it first started.
