Faryl Smith: From seven-year-old to a future global superstar

Faryl Smith was just seven years old when a teacher asked her to step out of the shadows and perform a solo in a school concert – and just five years later she has wowed TV audiences of millions.

In March 2006, when she was 10, she picked up a trio of awards at the Kettering Eisteddfod.

The former Henry Gotch School pupil followed her success in the Kettering Eisteddfod with wins at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and the national Pontin's Junior Starquest trophy at Prestatyn Sands in Wales.

By last autumn she had impressed the judges in the heats of the Festival 4 Stars in Liverpool and won through to the final in Glasgow in November.

Faryl's performance of her Britain's Got Talent audition song Ave Maria also saw her invited to be a guest singer at a songwriting awards in London.

Although she came second in the under-14s solo performance category of the Festival 4 Stars, Faryl was approached by music managers eager to sign her up.
