Fans tell Cobblers: We trust in you, give it your all

Cobblers supporters have been giving their messages to the players ahead of the crunch game at Sixfields later this afternoon.

And the message is clear: everyone spoken to by the Chronicle & Echo is unanimous that their heroes will pull off the great escape.

Not one single person spoken to today has yet voiced any doubt that the club will stay in the football league, thereby giving the town a huge Bank Holiday weekend lift and keeping the Cobblers where they belong.

Gerry McInnes, aged 68, from Far Cotton said: “There’s not been a doubt in my mind for weeks.

“Everyone can see those players have got the fight in them and the Sixfields crowd will be the 12th man. I believe in them today.”

The call for Northamptonians to participate in Claret Day has been heeded and hundreds in the town centre can be seen sporting the famous colours.

Michael Stevens, 45, from Duston, said: “I really do feel we’ll remember today for all the right reasons. We are a league team because we’ve the quality to be up here.

“This will be a turning point in the club’s history and every instinct is saying those players want it and want it as badly as the fans do, which means the support will be there for them. That will see them through.

“I just want to tell them: Come on teyn, we’re with you!”

Jake Moore, 24 from Kingsthorpe, said: “We have a long and important history of league football in this town and it’s in your hands now. I trust you and every one else does as well.

“Just go out here and give it your best.”
