Fans gear up for bike action at Silverstone
Motorbike racing fans got the chance to meet some of their heroes when Silverstone flung open its doors for an unprecedented 'meet the riders' session before this weekend's Superbike World Championship action.
Fans at the south Northamptonshire circuit yesterday were allowed exclusive access to the official pre-event press conference and an autograph signing session with the riders.
The race weekend is expected to attract tens of thousands of bike fans to Silverstone to see the first superbike action held at the circuit since 2007.
One of the riders who was at yesterday's press conference was British racing legend James Toseland, who was Superbike World Champion in 2004 and 2007 before switching to MotoGP for two seasons.
He said: "I've always had good support over the years and every British rider wants to do well at home.
"Hopefully we'll all have a great weekend and get some British riders on the podium.
"That's what it's all about - it's about getting a British rider on the podium at the British race."
Discussing the new layout of the Silverstone circuit, which has been designed specially for bikes, he added: "It seems a great layout. I watched MotoGP and they had a great race. There's a good five or six overtaking points for a bike.
"I'm looking forward to coming back here.
"With MotoGP, Formula 1 and British Superbikes, Silverstone has got all the major events now. It's nice to be on this kind of stage."
Also at Silverstone yesterday was current championship leader, Max Biaggi.
Ticket details for the event are available by calling Silverstone on 0844 3750740.
