The family and friends of a Northampton man who committed suicide last year have held a fund-raising event for the charity which supported him.
Former Northampton College student, Christopher Stolworthy died, aged 22, in December, but was previously helped out by The Mayday Trust in St Albans Road, Abington.
His friend, Kaylie Poulton, aged 22, who he met while at Duston School, and his mum, Susan, organised a day and night of family activities and music at The Bantam pub in Wellingborough Road on Saturday, to support the charity, which provides opportunities and support to people who have experienced difficulties in their life.
Miss Poulton, from Duston, said: “Chris got a lot of support from The Mayday Trust and they don’t really get the support they deserve. We just wanted to say thank you for what they did for Chris and also to let people be aware that there is help out there.”
The event included a raffle, auction, face painting, bouncy castle and 12 live music performances.
Miss Poulton added: “Chris would have loved it. He was very loyal and always doing what he could to help people. We want to raise as much as possible.”
Mrs Stolworthy said she would soon set up a charity in her son’s name, and added: “Chris wanted to set up a charity to help young people. It will be a local charity. This event is also something we want to do every year.”
