Experts invited to bid on Racecourse 'masterplan'
A MASTERPLAN for the future of Northampton's Racecourse has moved a step closer, with an ambitious group of residents calling for bids from experts to pull together a map for the park's future.
The masterplan, to be funded by part of a 137,000 grant from The River Nene Regional Park, will be a foundation for all future improvements to the park and will be used to attract funding for projects to open it up to even more visitors.
Northamptonshire Racecourse Healthy Living Hub Ltd, which was set up by the Friends of Northampton Racecourse (FONR) and is overseen by a multi-agency partnership board hosted by the Chronicle & Echo, has put together a tender brief to find the best consultant to draw up a strategy for the future of the park.
The report states: "This masterplan is being prepared to inform and shape our proposals for the regeneration of Northampton Racecourse, and support future funding bids. This masterplan must set out an innovative approach for this modern green space, while respecting its historical past. The masterplan must specifically state what is feasible and then prove it is attainable and sustainable."
Northamptonshire Racecourse Healthy Living Hub Ltd, supported by the Chronicle & Echo's Racecourse Reborn campaign, aims to set up a community cafe on the park and improve facilities to draw more people to it.
Its work is overseen by The Racecourse board, consisting of representatives of Northampton Borough Council, FONR, Northamptonshire County Council, residents' groups, River Nene Regional Park police and education bodies.
An information morning will be held by Northamptonshire Racecourse Healthy Living Hub Ltd on March 5 to give information to companies interested in the tender.
The deadline for tenders for the masterplan project will be noon on March 16, with interviews with tendering organisations taking place on March 22.
