Dozens of sites deemed unsuitable for development
The sites put forward for potential development around Northampton, Daventry, Towcester and Brackley were highlighted after dozens more were deemed to be unsuitable.
The West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit (JPU) considered numerous options and ruled out some before putting forward the current proposals.
In Northampton, two sites were kicked out because they were either in archaeologically sensitive areas or were too far away from the town centre.
The first site which was considered was an area to the east of Northampton, around Ecton, but the land was ruled out from the potential development because of its wildlife and heritage value.
The JPU's report on the land said: "Development in this location could have a significant impact on the quality of the green infrastructure network in this area and beyond.
"There are a number of sensitive wetland sites to the east of Northampton."
The report also noted there were "extensive areas of prehistoric and Romano-British occupation in the vicinity of Ecton ridge".
The second piece of land near Northampton to be ruled out for expansion was land south of the M1, close to Milton Malsor.
The JPU's report said that because the land was on the other side of the motorway to Northampton, any development there would damage the town.
It added: "By allowing development beyond the M1 this would severely impact on the character of Northampton.
"This option would in effect, be a new settlement needing its own facilities."
In Daventry, a total of four sites were rejected, included one because it was too close to the Borough Hill ancient monument and one to the south of the town which contained ancient woodland.
A further six sites were dismissed in Towcester, two because of concerns about flooding, one because it would have covered Towcester Racecourse and one because it was too close to Silverstone.
Brackley had two options thrown out because of the increased traffic and noise problems it was feared the developments would create.
