Diana's items under hammer
A desk rubber once owned and used by Princess Diana is set to fetch up to £300 at an auction later this month.
Printed on the extra large eraser – it roughly measures six inches by six inches – are the words 'For Big Mistakes' and it also features words handwritten by Diana: 'D Spencer, Rickleworth Hall, Diss' and 'Diana' and 'Beware Bomb, Help.'
Diana held on to the rubber even after she married Prince Charles, but then gave it away to her secretary. Now the valuable rubber is among 159 items of royal memorabilia expected to fetch around 32,000 at an auction at Reeman Dansie in Colchester, Essex, on June 23.
A letter from Diana to her secretary, Jane Parsons, is expected to fetch up to 700 at the same sale.
Miss Parsons gave evidence at the trial of Michael Fagan who broke into Buckingham Palace and disturbed the Queen when she was in bed. In the letter, dated September 24, 1982, Diana praised Miss Parsons' courage.
Diana wrote: "Dear Jane, I just wanted you to know that I thought of you on Thursday at the Old Bailey – it cannot of been a very nice experience, but I was told that you coped brilliantly. It is bad enough having to make a speech but to give evidence must be very daunting!
"You are marvellous to have gone through the ordeal and well done. Yours sincerely, Diana."
Two signed Christmas cards which Prince Charles and Princess Diana sent to Miss Parsons could sell for between 400 and 500 each.
