Deluge of Northamptonshire card fraud cases
Police staff in Northamptonshire have been so inundated with credit card cloning complaints from people who used petrol stations in Wootton and Paulerspury that they have been forced to delay issuing some of the crime reference numbers needed by victims.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said officers are dealing with the hundreds of reports by sending some of the responses out by post.
There have been more than 1,100 cases of credit card fraud arising from two Shell petrol stations on the A5 at Paulerspury and the A45 at Wootton.
Sunthuram Thevaratnam, aged 33, a former worker at the A45 garage, has been charged with three of the cases and is in custody while police investigate a further 900.
Fraudsters are believed to have used the information to try to withdraw cash from countries around the world, including Canada, India and Ghana.
