Cycling enthusiasts have been given the chance to watch the forthcoming women’s tour event pass through Northamptonshire from the best possible vantage point – the passenger seat in the official support car.
Wellingborough Cycles have teamed up with Progress Skoda Northampton to offer the prize, which will see the winner travel alongside the leading group as the cyclists compete in the gruelling race on Wednesday, May 7.
Cyclists will depart from Oundle and travel 58.3 miles through villages including Brixworth, Spratton, Kislingbury and Wootton before finishing outside the Guildhall in Northampton.
Darren Jeyes, owner of Wellingborough Cycles, said: “Cycling has never been as popular, it’s really taken off following the success of Team GB in the Olympics and Bradley Wiggins winning the Tour de France.
“We have seen a huge rise in the number of people taking up the sport, Every Saturday we organise a ride from the shop and we get dozens of people taking part, including one chap who’s lost seven stone in nine months as a result.
“To have the women’s tour passing through Northamptonshire is great for us and will boost cycling’s profile even more. We are delighted to team up with Progress Skoda Northampton to offer this incredible prize.”
Among those taking part in the televised event, rated one of the top multi-day races in the cycling calendar, will be Olympic champions Laura Trott, Dani King and Joanna Roswell.
