Cricket legends pay emotional tributes to Lynn Wilson
Leading figures in the cricketing world have paid tribute to Lynn Wilson after his tragic death in a car accident.
The former Northants chairman, president and patron died in a three-vehicle pile-up in Scotland on Wednesday.
Tributes have been paid to the 69-year-old who made his fortune through house-building firm Wilson Connolly along with brother Con.
Former Northants and England cricketer Allan Lamb said: "It's a terrible blow. I'm very close to Lynn's family and he was like another father to me."
Former England and Northants fast bowler Devon Malcolm said Mr Wilson had been "a huge influence" on his career and ultimately persuaded him to settle in the county.
He said: "What a gentleman Lynn Wilson was. He always had time to stop and chat to everyone, and his death is terribly tragic.
"Lynn made me and my family feel very comfortable and at home here. There is no-one who was as influential in Northamptonshire cricket, from club cricket right through to international levels.
"His name is synonymous with Northamptonshire and I think we will have to find a football ground or cricket ground to have a venue large enough for the number of people who will want to pay their respects at his funeral."
Mark Tagg, chief executive of the cricket club, said a minute's silence would take place as a mark of respect at the next home fixture against Derbyshire on Wednesday, July 16.
He said: "The tragic news that Lynn was killed in a road traffic accident has shaken everyone involved with Northants cricket.
"Lynn was a great supporter of cricket at all levels and had previously been the club chairman, president and patron. Lynn owned his own beautiful cricket ground at Holcot which has staged many age group games over numerous years.
"He will be hugely missed as a very generous benefactor and a good friend to many people in many walks of life."
Black arm bands were worn by the club's first team in honour of their former president and patron during their current fixture against Worcestershire.
